TAPAS & COMBINED

More tahn 50 modern tapas

ARTESPAÑOL Paella and Tapas offers a more modern version of the classic tapas bar, as exists in the Iberian Peninsula, where they originated. One can stop by to have a drink or a tapa or a full meal. A simple and exhilarating alchemy that awakens the “bon-vivant” in search of an agreeable atmosphere surrounded by typically Spanish customers.

Cold or hot, the most traditional and perfect of the most imaginative innovations, tapas are more substantial than appetizers, without being full meals. Tapas are served on medium-sized plates and they offer a multitude of combinations and Spanish specialties. These appetizers are so successful because of the fact that they can serve as a complete meal. They are the tasting menú of the 21st century that allow for the multiplicaiton of flavours thanks to a selection of plates.

A MENU WITH MORE THAN 50 TAPAS

Customers immediately discover on the place mat pleasant pictures of the tapas on offer, which already acts as an appetizer. The creative and attractive illustrations of the place mats presents fifty photographs of tapas – “an image is worth a thousand words” – and the detailed explanation of every dish results in faster sales.

WHAT ARE TAPAS?

THE ORIGIN OF TAPAS

There are several versions or legends concerning the origin of tapas. One of the most well-known makes reference to the Middle Ages, during Alfonso’s X el Sabio’s reign in the 13th century. It is said that when the King was sick he was prescribed wine and to avoid the effects of alcohol on an empty stomach, he took appetizers to accompany the drink. After returning to good health, he decided that, in the castles of Castile, wine must be suitably accompanied by a ration of food so that consumers would be less affected by the effects of the alcohol. It must not be forgotten that the word ‘tapa’ originally meant a small plate that was put on the glass in the old days, forming thus a lid (tapar means “to cover” in Spanish).

Desserts

Sweet Tapas are desserts served in small portions. The term Sweet Tapas was introduced to strengthen this Spanish theme. In the same logic as the other menus of the restaurant, the Sweet Tapas menu showcases pleasant pictures and already acts as an appetizer.
